Are dogs allowed at Stead Park?

Pets are not allowed at Stead Park. In 2007, dog park regulations were issued which allowed for the creation of official, public dog parks on District-owned parkland within the possession and control of the Government of the District of Columbia. The two closest dog parks are S Street Dog Park (S Street, NW and 17th Street, NW) and Shaw Dog Park (11th Street, NW and Rhode Island Avenue, NW). For more information on DPR dog parks email dpr.dogparks@dc.gov.

If the field or rec center are locked during posted hours, please contact DPR at 202-673-7647 or email dpr@dc.gov.

What does Friends of Stead Park do versus what does the Department of Parks and Recreation do at the park?

At this time, DPR is responsible for staffing and maintenance of Stead Park, including the playground, field, rec center and basketball courts. Friends of Stead Park is leading the effort for the modernization and expansion of the recreation center. The Stead Park trust is used to help with special maintenance and programming projects.

Are there public bathrooms at the park?

Public restrooms are accessible from 8am to 8:30pm on the P street entrance of the building. These bathrooms automatically lock at 8:30pm and DGS cleans them on a  daily basis. Should you have a concern while using the public bathrooms, please          contact the Department of General Services (DGS) at 202-727-2800.
